Highlights add lighter pieces for dimension. Placement (foil or other methods) is decided with the stylist. Balayage-style freehand work is a separate conversation — not assumed from this page.

Before your visit
Share how light you want pieces to look and whether you prefer low- or high-contrast. Virgin dark hair may need a staged plan; ask the salon whether one visit or a staged plan is realistic for your hair.
Aftercare
Purple or blue toners and bond-care products are only useful when they match what was used — ask before buying. Protect lightened hair from heavy heat without protectant.
Questions
Is highlight the same as balayage?
Not automatically. Highlights and Balayage are separate menu items. Choose Balayage when you want freehand, soft placement discussed with the colorist.
